Welcome to World-Weary!

Hi, I’m Sam. And I’m tired.

Years ago I began my writing career with short fiction stories published on Medium.com. That was my passion; exploring genres like cosmic horror, fantasy and post-apocalyptic dystopias.

I’m not the ‘feel good’ kinda gal’.

I picked up a small following and developed a reputation for emotional, atmospheric prose. I had an almost poetic style according to some of my readers, and I had a knack for setting scenes and making people feel something.

Things were going well. I was thriving. But then something happened in the real world that I felt the need to write about — so I broke my ‘fiction only’ rule, and I published a short article about a real-life situation.

I got a lot of engagement and excitement from my readers. They liked my take. It felt good to speak my mind.

“That was cool,” I thought, and went back to writing my fiction.

And then something else happened. I wrote about that. And then something else. And then again, and again, and again. People came to hear what I thought, and they asked me interesting questions that drove me to research and write even more.

Pretty soon, fiction fell off my map completely.

I metamorphosed into a full-time political blogger, with a focus on human rights and intersectionality. And yet again, I was told by my readers that I had a knack for making people feel.

And thus, eventually, World-Weary was born. It’s named after me; I’m very tired.

You can’t study current events and not feel tired.

If you’re standing here, I know you’re tired too.

You’re tired because you care. You look at the news, at the injustices happening to people around the world, and it drains you. You want to wake up in the morning and see good news on your phone for a change; you want the world to be better than it is.

You want people to be free to live authentically, without fear of judgement or oppression. You want to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and not be constantly stressed about making ends meet.

You want the same for everyone around you. You want your community to prosper and thrive, free of fear and suffering.

That’s why you’re tired. That’s why we’re all tired.

World-Weary is for people like us; a place where we talk about these issues and what’s wrong with the world. We talk about the problems we have to solve, and we brainstorm about how we might go about fixing them.

Here at World-Weary, we recognize that we can achieve nothing on our own. One woman alone cannot dismantle the power structures and systemic injustices that built the world we live in now.

But hundreds, thousands of people acting in solidarity certainly can.

In subscribing to World-Weary, you signal that you want to learn about the issues facing your fellow humans all over the globe, and you want to fight for a better world for everyone.

My written posts, articles and comment sections are free; those are spaces for everyone to talk and network and share ideas. They’re open for all to read and discuss.

Paid subscribers also gain access to my Unfiltered micro-podcast, where I react to the news and occasionally do a deep dive into various serious issues that I’m particularly passionate about.

New: In addition to doing a deep dive into current events, I’m trying out a new thing with the podcast. Every new episode going forward will include a mission for my listeners: A practical, actionable thing we can do to make a difference.

We’re here because we care — we may as well use it!

Paid subscribers help me keep World-Weary afloat; you guys rock!

If all of this tickles your fancy, then please; subscribe to get full access to the newsletter and publication archives.

While all of my writing is free, paid subscribers are vital to help support me in my work. I firmly believe that people ought to be fairly paid for the work we do, at least in this capitalistic society we have.

I provide my work for free, but every dollar helps put food on my table and makes it possible for me to keep doing what I love.

In addition, paid subscribers get goodies! There’s the podcast, of course, but there’s also the World-Weary chat which is open to paid subscribers only.

And all subscribers, both paid and free, recieve my undying gratitude for being here to read and listen to what I have to say.

You guys rock.

Solidarity wins.

I cover several subjects, most notably issues of human rights, climate change, and politics. Intersectional activism is my bread and butter.
