The Propaganda Isn't Even Smart Anymore
It's just plain lazy
“Knock the crap out of him, would you please?” Said the man who wanted to be President, pointing at a loud protestor at his campaign rally back in 2016.
He went on to talk about how back in his day, someone like that would leave on a stretcher. He’d pay the legal fees, he promised. Go for it.
We rolled our eyes and went back to work.
We’re used to violent rhetoric from Donald Trump. He spits whatever vitriol pops into his head, spattering everyone nearby with lies like tobacco juice as he chews the scenery.
He’s a grifter. An over-actor. A bombastic performer with no substance.
He’s always been like this. At a Republican primary debate, he said he’d bring back waterboarding and ‘a hell of a lot worse.’ He said the U.S. hasn’t gone far enough with its tactics of torture — oh, sorry, I mean its ‘Enhanced Interrogation Techniques.’
After the Charlottesville Nazi rally, he said there were ‘very fine people on both sides.’
When George Floyd was murdered by a police officer and the city of Minneapolis erupted in protest, he posted racist remarks like; “When the looting starts, the shooting starts!” all over his social media.
He once even suggested shooting people trying to cross the U.S. border in the leg. I’ve heard anecdotes about him having said similar things about protestors.
We know he’s certainly capable of that — just look at his campaign stunt in Lafayette Square, where he wanted a picture at a local church. He had the peaceful protestors beaten and tear gassed to clear the street.
His administration does that a lot. They love to jump straight to the beat sticks and pepper spray. I’ve seen horrible pictures of injuries, such as a child with a broken skull because of a rubber bullet.
You’re not supposed to shoot those at people, by the way. But under Trump’s leadership, that’s how these officers behave.
When cops shoot protestors, he talks about retribution or how they deserved it. Radical leftists get what they get, in his mind. He’s not afraid to say it.
He’s not afraid to promise he’ll destroy countries, wipe out civilizations. Conquer other nations. There’s a reason America’s allies are running for the hills and preparing for war, and it’s not all due to Putin.
Trump’s rhetoric is violence. It’s his favourite tactic to try and strongarm people into obedience. He thinks it makes him strong, like a schoolyard bully.
So with all of this in mind, isn’t it extraordinary that right after this latest ‘assassination attempt,’ some members of the media immediately started asking Democratic party leaders if they should tone down their rhetoric?
Do you see it? The re-framing? That’s not even a subtle attempt at changing the narrative, at shifting blame, at tone policing in the most hypocritical way.
That’s not even good propaganda. And I really hope nobody was stupid enough to actually fall for it.
Solidarity wins.
