Don't worry, it makes the smart Americans scream into a pillow too. I watched a YouTube documentary that was really neat about different cities experimenting with "green cities". The idea is to plant a lot of trees in big cities so it shades and makes the city cooler. It was a pretty neat concept that I would love to see more of if done right. Obviously, this is just a bandaid on a symptom instead of addressing the root of the problem but it's still a cool idea.
Oh, yeah! I have an old article laying around about public transportation and green spaces in cities to improve matters. A huge part of why cities get so goddamn hot during the summer is the outrageous amount of space we set aside for cars.
Roads and parking lots, all that black asphalt and metal cooking in the sun throws off SO much heat, it’s insane.
We’d cut so much off of our emissions by prioritizing public transport, reducing lot space and introducing more green spaces. It’s a no-brainer, but, hey.
Profit always wins in a capitalist society. I agree though, that's why I'm glad I don't live in a major city. It's already hot in the boonies, to quote Hank Hill "Dale you giblet-head, we live in Texas, where it's already 110 in the summer. And if it gets one degree hotter I'm gonna kick your ass!".
