You're right. The U.S. health system is a mess, and it's never going to be fixed. At least in my lifetime anyway. I do wonder what it would be like to live somewhere, where I wouldn't have to worry about that anymore. But, that's just a dream right now. I do hope things continue to get better for all of you up there. Gods know you deserve it after everything that's been going on. I hear that Carney is becoming quite the mover and shaker in the world's financial circles (not the Americans), so I hope that all turns out well for all of you. Maybe some of that new found sovereign wealth will bring in more hospitals and staffing for all of you someday soon.
Increasingly I think about sneaking across the border. I don't just mean for a day or two, or to do some shopping. I'd like to live somewhere where people without money (and *with* money for that matter) don't have to worry about my brain be shortchanged because I've banged it on something but don't have the cash to deal with it. I live in Minnesota, so it's very tempting...
Universal healthcare is so beneficial to the population that it's definitely worth a bit more in taxes. And I accept paying even more for it if I know the service is much faster and better and I have more comfort while medical bankruptcy is still impossible.
In my country, Romania, I had surgery for nose septum deviation in February and I didn't pay a dime. In most private systems, I would have payed a few thousand bucks at least. I even had the chance to be in a semiprivate room. Preoperative consult, postoperative consults, anesthesia, medication were all free. I didn't have the level of confort I would have had in a US hospital but it was decent.

Honestly Sam, as long as the very wealthy have their claws into US health care nothing is ever going to change.
