Earlier I came across a very pointed and serious letter by one of Canada’s vocal champions,
. As a former Member of the House of Commons and a member of the NDP, he has been a staunch voice in favour of equal rights and dignity for all Canadians. It came as no surprise to see him holding his ground, pushing back against the hostility of Trump and his cronies. It’s even less surprising to see him still fighting post retirement, keeping his elbows up and rallying Canadians to stand on guard for our nation as we’ve long promised to do.
Today, he spoke out in alarm about our potential involvement in Trump’s ‘Golden Dome’ project.
He’s right. Handing Trump air superiority and surveillance rights to Canada’s skies is just about the most ridiculous proposition I can imagine.
And while the Prime Minister has yet to give his approval to it, officials in Canada have apparently signalled that our restrictions are being lifted in order to pave the way for this project to move forward.
This, while Trump is currently orchestrating the authoritarian takeover of the United States, including his human trafficking scheme — deportation without due process is not deportation, now is it? — and capturing cities under federal control.
Seriously; L.A. was a dry run, now he’s moving on to Washington D.C.
It is clear to me, as it is to many Canadians, that integrating further with the U.S. right now would be a colossal mistake. As such, as Charlie Angus suggests, I reached out to give my opinion to the Prime Minister as a citizen and one of his constituents.
After all, since we live in a democracy, our elected officials are our employees. As their bosses, we must give them direction.
I urge my follow Canadians to do the same. Below, I’ll include a copy of the message I sent. Feel free to use it for inspiration — and please, go deeper than I did.
I only mentioned a couple of the crimes carried out by Trump and his administration, there’s so much more you could say!
Solidarity wins.

Good afternoon Prime Minister,
I am a concerned citizen of Canada reaching out to express my concern over the possibility of Canada joining with the United States on Trump's so-called 'golden dome' initiative.
As one of your constituents, I urge you to reject involvement. Our neighbours to the south are currently led by a highly unpredictable, unstable man who has shown his untrustworthy nature through years of broken promises, discarded treaties and a staggering disloyalty to long time allies.
He has loudly and repeatedly insulted our country with his 'Governor Trudeau' comments and his '51st State' rhetoric, and openly told journalists that he intends to destroy our country's economy in order to force us to concede to annexation.
He represents a serious threat to our national security and the wellbeing of our people.
While I do not blame the majority of the American people for his behaviour — I love my spouse, an American citizen, and his family and our mutual friends — we have to keep in mind that he is their elected President, and he currently wields an unprecedented degree of unchecked power in the country.
His inconstancy makes him dangerous, and further integration with the United States at this time is not desirable in the eyes of many Canadians. Most of us are still actively boycotting American goods, services and travel in outrage at what the U.S. government is doing, both to us, and also to their own.
Let's not forget the blatant racism and horrific mass deportations and detainment without due process that the U.S. government is also engaging in, which is a stain on their nation and would reflect very poorly on us were we to give tacit approval by continuing to link arms with them at this time.
As a citizen and one of your constituents, I beg you; please do not move forward with this. We should be divesting from the United States, not forging stronger ties.
Thank you for your consideration and I wish you peace and safety during wildfire season and beyond,
-Sam W.
Thank you for this! I will use it.
I don't currently believe that our government is planning to sign on to the dome but elevating the importance of this seems wise and timely.
I think the references supporting this notion in the article that Charlie points to were deliberately, a bit, ambiguous. Perhaps a time-buyer. They were made at a NORAD facility, in the context of Canada's role in NORAD. And so, I currently believe that the comment was referring to the modernization of NORAD, which has elements underway and more envisioned. We are already participating in. Our gov. has said they are committed to this effort.
NORAD ≠Golden Dome.
Agreed 100%. Just say No to Golden Dome Trump Fantasy. Trudeau said No to Reagan, Carney can say No to Trump. Mr. Angus makes a number of very good arguments against, the most important of which being that collaboration with a fascist administration is a bad idea. Personally, I don't believe that our PM is seriously considering the Trump fantasy, especially in light of other recent actions regarding Canada's defense.
