Emergency update for Los Angeles. I don’t know how many of my readers live in the area, but even if you don’t you can still spread the word.
In addition to the National Guard troops being sent in to protect federal buildings and intimidate the protestors, word has just gone out that roughly 700 Marines may be sent in to join them on the ground.
This is an insane escalation, and could potentially act as a flint striker over what is already a wickedly dangerous tinderbox.
This is a ridiculous show of force, especially in conjunction with Trump’s planned military parade. He’s using every single justification he can find to bring federal military forces to bear on U.S. citizens who are, I’ll remind you, exercising their Constitutional right to protest.
This is not the same situation as happened on January 6, both because that was a violent insurrection and not a legal protest, and also because Trump didn’t fucking bother to respond with the military that day.
Of course he didn’t. January 6 was a violent insurrection aimed to keep him in power, and this is a protest against his mass kidnapping campaign in defiance of due process laws.
There’s a difference there in terms of morality and legality.
Please share this warning, and if you’re in Los Angeles, take care of yourself. Be safe, be loud, and don’t let the bastards grind you down.
Solidarity wins.
I understand protesters are doing their best to keep protests peaceful but it's more difficult by far when they're confronted by hundreds of National Guards. Please please don't get arrested if you can help it but keep fighting - it's only a matter of time before we have another showdown here in NZ.
The question is whether Trump will pull another TACO and pull the troops back in a couple of days, or will he leave them there to intimidate the protestors. What if someone decides to shoot a soldier or a Marine? What if they throw bottles and rocks at the soldiers? Will we have another Kent State? That's the message Trump is giving Americans. "They will shoot you if you protest against me'
Now the other question is whether Americans are willing to put their lives on the street to continue to protest. I don't like the odds. I am playing watch and see. Will they or won't they shoot protestors?
