This new scare from this hantavirus outbreak should be taken seriously, mostly since countries are in panic mode right now out of ignorance instead of having a plan to quarantine the passengers in order to determine their infection rate. Now, because of this ignorance and denial, some of the passengers have gotten off the boat without getting checked. Will it spread? No one knows for sure right now, and that should worry people.
I've caught COVID-19 three times now Sam despite being somewhat of a hermit and each time the vector of infection was a health professional. After this last time I would have been perfectly happy if I never had face to face contact with another human being ever again. I caught ME (Myalgic encephalomyelitis) at the very tail end of the 1990s and it left me with a target on my back for infections like COVID-19. And here we are again with a serious life threatening viral infection and the vector is passengers on a plague ship, - sorry, - I mean a cruise ship. When the Pandemic hit the world in 2020 I truly hoped that all of those damn ships would be towed away and scrapped because their capacity to spread diseases is absolutely spectacular. On those rare times i leave the house I'm wearing a mask, - a proper good quality one, - not a surgical mask and people stare at me like I've got three heads. You know, - because the lie that COVID-19 is over has been spread pretty darn thickly around by conservative governments and wealthy business owners. People can call me paranoid if they want, but I'd rather be called a germ nutter than than gasping my last breath in a hospital ward.
Absolutely on all counts! Those of us who work in healthcare or healthcare adjacent fields are at high risk of infection - I'm not a provider, just a cashier at a pharmacy, but our building is full of clinics and offices and everybody comes to us for their medication.
We're constantly sick. *Constantly.* People come up to the counter with Covid tests in hand, coughing, unmasked, and laugh about how they probably have it. They're sneezing all over, buying over the counter cough medicines and sniffling, wiping their nose with their sleeves before handing me cash.
Meanwhile I'm just staring at their backs as they walk away, frantically sanitizing the whole counter and card reader as best as I can, internally screaming before running to scrub my hands.
I damn sure do! You'd best believe that the second we started offering this season's flu and covid boosters I jumped to get both of them. Came in early before my shift and grabbed the forms, got the jabs right before I got my smock on.
And my spouse is training to work in the hospital, too. He's certified as a Nurse's Aide in CT, and he's finished his EMT training. Now he's looking to get certified here as well so he can find work when he immigrates.
We're both gonna be bringing it all home with us. It's gonna be rough.
I'll be off to get my 'flu jab in the coming week as well. I can't get my COVID booster yet because it's too soon after catching it this last time around. Keep safe Sam, we need you.

Heck and damn Sam you must feel like you have a loaded gun pointing at you the whole time you are at work.
