Every single time a group of humans decides that Empire is a better idea than the Kingdom, it does not work out well for them. The Israelites demanding a king. The early church signing on to Constantine’s plan to mix faith with politics. Those are just two outstanding historical examples. There are probably more. It’s not about nationalism, it’s about the choice to bow to the God of Mammon or the Man from Galilee. All we can do is look at our own hearts and actions and ask for the grace to see where we exclude, divide, and the willingness to let that s!@t go!
Sam for someone who isn't a Christian you have a better handle on it than many who wave Bibles around and say they are Christians. Blessings and all good Sam.
The idea of Christian nationalism dates back the puritans who put themselves above all others. One of the main reasons they were kicked out of Europe. Where did they go? Why to the new land of course. Where they could practice their form of christianity however they wanted, which they did. We see the results four hundred years later with the likes if Mike Johnson in charge of something important.
This is what the puritans have evolved into now. Not that the church of England was much different back in the day. Or the Holy Roman Catholic Church back in its heyday of emperors and kings and crusades.
Christian nationalists is just another ideation of a power struggle along religious lines. Nothing changes over history. As humans, we just keep repeating our mistakes over and over again without learning much, beyond how to improve upon the eternal fight for tribal supremacy.
I always say that I love my country, and that being a patriot means wanting our country to do better tomorrow than we did today. Always forward.
And that’s why the right wing conservatives will never make America great, because they always want to stay where we are or move back to the past. Only progressives are able to move forward.

Well written. This would do good if it was read in every church on every Sunday until the US AND Canada comes to their senses!
Thank you Heather! And you're right; abuses are everywhere. Here in Canada, the Catholic church and hateful 'Christians' have a lot to answer for.
We have a long history of hate in the name of Jesus. It's horrific.
