For nearly half of my life, I've had one foot in Canada, and the other one in the U.S. and beyond. I just recently found out (if I want to pursue it) that with the new change in Canadian immigration law last December, I am eligible to apply for a Canadian citizenship certificate now, because of my great grandparents. I thought I was one generation removed, but someone else recently told me that I am eligible. Not that I'm making any immediate plans.
At my age, I have to ask, is it still worth the massive effort it would take to undertake all of that records research? I'm thinking about it.
I will always root for Canada because of my roots, and all of the time I spent in my life living near the border of New Brunswick. I sincerely hope the Canadian economy strengthens and makes the people more prosperous in the long run. As for the U.S, it will never recover from what the people have allowed to happen. I don't know the future, other than a major recession is coming soon. I just hope it doesn't break the rest of the world when it comes.
Oh, Canada the beautiful. Canada was, without a doubt, our favorite destination. Its people is kind and welcoming. Its food, healthy and from-scratch-tasty. We don’t travel no more, unfortunately, but if we would, it’d be to Canada.ik
I hope you know that the majority of us in the US agree with you. We have a narcissistic, greedy, cruel and ignorant man as “president” who is doing his best to ruin everything here. He’s tearing down our democracy, tearing down DC for his own glory, starting an endless war, trying to destroy our relationships with friends and destroying safeguards for nature, food safety, children’s safety, etc, etc, etc. There’s so much more.
I do indeed! My spouse is American, living down there until he's approved to immigrate to Canada to live with me. Most of our mutual friends are also in the States, and just as horrified.
I used to visit the U.S. all the time to see my friends and my now in-laws. It's certainly not all Americans I'm railing at.
I'm expressing my frustration at the sentiments shown by people who either align with Trump, or are those 'I don't do politics' people who don't pay attention and think we're throwing a hissy fit for no reason.
His voters and the people who couldn't be bothered to vote at all, basically.
When we visited Montreal, there was a park across the street from our hotel. Instead of ornamental flowers, they planted fruits and vegetables. People get together to play standing up with humongous chess sets. We had such a great time there. Thank you Montreal.
